Working through Science & Traditional Knowledge

Our mission is to work through science and traditional ecological knowledge to conserve the full diversity of habitats and their species, within the Musqueam Creek ecosystem, now and for future generations.

Led by our active and diverse board of directors MECS represents many of the interest groups responsible for the stewardship of this important ecosystem. Together we leverage our resources and coordinate our activities towards a common goal.

Our projects include habitat protection and restoration, pollution mitigation, invasive plant species removal, and community mangagement. MECS relies heavily upon our volunteers, the resources of our partners, and private, governmental and corporate donations to deliver these programs.

Originally founded in 1997 as the
Musqueam Watershed Restoration Project; a partnership project between the Musqueam Indian Band and the David Suzuki Foundation, MECS incorporated as an independent not for profit organization in 2004. For more information please download our constitution.pdf
